Clinton FoundationThe Clinton Global Initiative
AkzoNobel made a commitment to the Clinton Global Initiative in September 2014 to help cities around the world build more resilience to the challenges of the 21st century.

The commitment was centered on the establishment of a partnership with The Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities program (see below).

Established in 2005 by former US President Bill Clinton, the Clinton Global Initiative encourages global leaders to create and implement innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.

Courtaulds

AkzoNobel is a long-standing partner of the Courtauld Institute of Art in the UK, one of the world’s leading centers for the study of art history, conservation and curatorship.

The Institute’s Gallery at Somerset House in London houses exquisite pieces art, silver and sculpture, and has been entrusted with the long-term loan of the company’s silver collection, inherited from the Courtauld family.

Recently, AkzoNobel also provided scholarship funding for students undertaking Master’s degree and postgraduate study in the conservation of wall paintings.

Cruyff

The Cruyff Foundation
AkzoNobel supports the Cruyff Foundation in its global efforts to make sport more accessible to children around the world.

Established in 1997 by famous Dutch footballer Johan Cruyff, the organization has so far established more than 180 Cruyff Courts in neighborhoods where children lack the possibility to play sports in a safe environment.

AkzoNobel is the preferred supplier to the Cruyff Foundation, allowing both organizations to work together and make a difference in communities around the world.

Giving Back

GivingBack
AkzoNobel has partnered with Dutch charity Giving Back to help provide diverse school and university students with positive role models and mentors from the world of business.

Around 350 young people a year are matched to inspiring, successful mentors, each of whom freely volunteers their time. One of these volunteer mentors is AkzoNobel’s Executive Committee member, Conrad Keijzer.

As we see it, teaming up with Giving Back is not only a great way of connecting to the talent of the future, but it also sends a strong message within our organization that we are committed to finding and nurturing talent from all backgrounds.

Haberdashers
The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers is a significant supporter of schools and education in England and Wales. With origins in medieval times, it is now trustee of three main grant-making foundations and four schools foundations.

The company currently funds an AkzoNobel/Haberdashers’ Science Scholarship program, which awards ten scholarships per year, with selected students being supported for each year of their course.

AkzoNobel is currently planning to extend the partnership in order to develop a more comprehensive support program.

KidsRights

KidsRights
AkzoNobel sponsors the Children’s Peace Fund, which is awarded as part of the annual International Children’s Peace Prize.

Devised by the Dutch KidsRights Foundation, the prize is presented to a deserving child for his or her dedication to children’s rights, with nominations coming from all over the world.

The fund offers financial support for social projects related to the theme and country of the winner.
These projects are overseen by professional, non-governmental organizations. Recent recipients include Malala Yousafzai from Pakistan.

Monocle

Monocle Magazine
We were delighted to partner with Monocle magazine on its survey of the world’s most liveable cities, which offers inspiration for urban communities everywhere to create more human environments.

While data-driven elements such as crime, healthcare, state-funded education and business climate remain the backbone of the Quality of Life Survey, it's the "liveability assessment" on intangibles such as commitment to culture, proximity to open spaces and affordability that make all the difference to a city – and make this survey unique.

Our partnership with Monocle is also designed to increase our exposure with key AkzoNobel stakeholder groups including architects, designers and mayors. Read the full story here.

Plan

Plan
AkzoNobel – through its Education Fund – has been a partner of Plan Nederland for nearly 20 years. The company receives help from the organization when making decisions about which projects to support through the fund.

Rijksmuseum

Rijksmuseum
AkzoNobel, through its Sikkens brand, was the official supplier of all decorative paint products for the extensive refurbishment of Amsterdam’s world famous Rijksmuseum.

One of the main tasks was to develop a special color palette which closely matched the paint originally used by architect Pierre Cuypers when the museum opened in 1885.

The Rijksmuseum was fully reopened in 2013, with more than 8,000 liters of Sikkens paint having been used throughout the building, both inside and out.

The Rockefeller Foundation's 100 Resilient Cities programThe Rockefeller Foundation's 100 Resilient Cities program
AkzoNobel has partnered with The Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities program to underline the company’s serious commitment to tackling the many challenges being faced by some of the world’s biggest urban areas.

The partnership also reinforces AkzoNobel’s position as a key player in the whole area of urban resilience and regeneration, helping planners and policy-makers to build more capacity and adaptability into city systems, businesses and communities.

Over a period of two years from 2014 onwards, AkzoNobel will compile an urban resilience guide for cities and undertake special projects at four cities named on The Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities list. In addition, the company will make its expertise in paints, coatings and chemicals available to the program’s advisory committees.

SikkensFoundation

Sikkens Foundation

Past winners have included Le Corbusier, Gerrit Rietveld and Bridget Riley.
